NHL Rumors: Senators Forward Becoming Trade Candidate
According to Darren Dreger, some people around the league believe that it's more likely that the Ottawa Senators will trade Alex Formenton instead of signing him to a new contract.
With all the buzz and excitement going on with the start of the regular season, some fans may have forgotten that Formenton is still without a contract. He is the final RFA looking for a new deal, and the clock is truly ticking. RFAs must be signed by Dec. 1 to be eligible to play during the 2022-23 season. That is less than a month away, so we will have to see what the Senators decide to do with him from here.
Formenton is coming off of a breakout season that saw him score 18 goals and record 32 points in 79 games. It was a clear step in the right direction for the 23-year-old forward, so maybe there could be some interest in his services if the Senators actively shop him.
