NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues Forward Becoming Trade Candidate
The 2022-23 season has been a complete disaster for the St. Louis Blues. At the time of this writing, they have a 4-8-0 record and are tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets for the least amount of points in the NHL. This is totally unacceptable for a team with Stanley Cup aspirations, but alas, if they do not turn things around quickly, they will surely be sellers at the deadline. In this scenario, Ivan Barbashev would be one of their biggest trade candidates.
Barbashev is a pending UFA who playoff teams will love to get their hands on at the deadline. The 26-year-old forward is coming off of a breakout season that saw him score 26 goals and record 60 points in 81 games. Although he is off to a slow start this season (four points in 12 games), there's certainly reason to believe that he can rebound as the year goes on. With his scoring touch, his physicality would also make him a great pickup for a team's middle six.
We will have to wait and see if the Blues can turn it around quickly. If not, they will prepare their goodbyes for Barbashev, as he will be on the move.
