San Jose Sharks Make Changes to Roster
The struggling San Jose Sharks have placed James Reimer on injured reserve. In a corresponding move, Jeffrey Viel has been called up to the NHL squad.
Reimer is the Sharks' starting netminder, so his absence will be quite noticeable. In 15 games this season, the 34-year-old has put together a 5-8-2 record, 3.00 GAA, and .903 SV%. Overall, it has been a year of mixed results for the Manitoba native, but a portion of that can be blamed on San Jose's rough play as a collective unit.
Viel, on the other hand, is getting his first crack at the NHL lineup this season. The 25-year-old forward will provide the Sharks with much more bite, as he plays the game on the edge. In 34 games this past season, he had three goals, five points, 84 hits, and 114 penalty minutes.
