Top-3 Biggest Surprises So Far This Season
The 2022-23 NHL season is underway as most teams are at least 10 games deep. So far we've seen some entertaining hockey most nights in what has the makings to be one of the best seasons in recent memory. Who doesn't like surprises? Let's dive into some of the biggest surprises so far in 2022-23:
Erik Karlsson Turning Back the Clock
The San Jose Sharks are tanking this season and that's got nothing to do with their water supply. The team is heading for a full rebuild which was kick-started by dealing Brent Burns this summer. Erik Karlsson has become of the NHL's biggest surprises to start this season as he's turned back the clock and is back to his offensive ways. Karlsson has 15 points in 12 games and could be on some team's radar come trade deadline.
Tage Thompson Becoming a Superstar in Buffalo
Buffalo Sabre Tage Thompson is another player who is turning heads this season for all the right reasons. The Sabres pivot has 14 points in 10 games this season and has helped lead Buffalo to a 7-3-0 start. Nobody had the Sabres to be a contender in the eastern conference this season but with Thompson's help, it could be coming much sooner than expected.
Connor McDavid is Scoring at Will
Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid told reporters last summer he was going to shoot more and boy oh boy he wasn't lying. McJesus is off to a silly start with 11 goals and 22 points in his first 10 games and is on pace for 90 goals. Could we see a 80-goal, 160-point season from #97?
