4 Forwards Placed on Waivers

Teams looking for some forward depth have four options available right now, as Ryan Carpenter (New York Rangers), Kevin Rooney (Calgary Flames), Tyler Benson (Edmonton Oilers), and Martin Kaut (Colorado Avalanche) have all been placed on waivers.

Carpenter could certainly get some attention on the waiver wire. The 31-year-old only carries a $750,000 cap hit and could be a good option for a team looking to upgrade their fourth line. His solid defensive play and physicality make him a decent depth player to have as well.

Like Carpenter, Rooney is a decent fourth-line player while playing at his best. However, he has had his struggles with the Flames this campaign, as he has just an assist in 17 games played. His $1.3 million cap hit until the end of next season may make teams stay away, but his solid play as a Ranger could also be enough for him to get some consideration.

This was the year for Benson to show the Oilers that he is ready for a full-time NHL role. Yet, an injury at the beginning of the season truly hurt the Edmonton native's chances of doing so. In two games with Edmonton this season, he has zero points.

Kaut was on waivers earlier this season, and no team claimed him. In 18 games this campaign, the 2018 first-round pick has one goal, two assists, and a minus-2 rating.
