Expect to see Horvat the biggest fish on the trade market and his return could be bigger than that of Chicago Blackhawks Patrick Kane given his age and current production. Horvat's enjoying a career season, scoring 20 goals in his first 28 games in 2022-23. He's also the king of faceoffs at the moment, leading the NHL by winning close to 58% of his draws.
At 27, teams in the playoff chase and rebuilding hockey clubs will be interested, which will only drive up the price tag. Horvat is a pending unrestricted free agent who doesn't hold any trade protection and is only making $5.5 million against the cap.
While we don't expect a deal to be announced before the NHL's Christmas roster freeze, Horvat's likely getting dealt long before the trade deadline as Canucks management are going to pounce once someone finally meets their very significant asking price.
