Ducks, Red Wings & Panthers Complete Three-Team Trade
The Anaheim Ducks, Detroit Red Wings, and Florida Panthers have completed a three-team trade. The Panthers have acquired Givani Smith from the Red Wings, while Detroit landed Danny O'Regan from the Ducks. The Ducks, on the other hand, acquired Michael Del Zotto from the Panthers.
This was the season where Smith was expected to compete for a full-time role on the Red Wings' roster, but it just did not come to fruition. As a result, he is heading to Florida and will compete for a spot on their fourth line. He will provide the Panthers with more toughness and physicality when utilized. In two games this season, he has zero points.
O'Regan has spent the entirety of this season with the San Diego Gulls, where he has three goals to go along with 15 assists. Overall, he is a decent producer at the AHL level, but it will be intriguing to see if he gets called up to the Red Wings given their injury trouble. In 30 career NHL games, he has one goal and five assists.
Perhaps the most notable name in this deal, Del Zotto is heading back to the Ducks. The veteran defenseman did not get into any NHL action during his brief stay with the Panthers. Instead, he was with the Charlotte Checkers, where he had 10 points in 25 games. Let's see if this move to Anaheim opens the door to a call-up.
