Flames' Markstrom Calls Himself Out for Horrible Play
Calgary Flames netminder Jacob Markstrom doesn't know what his problem is. Markstrom was awfully candid after the Flames lost 2-1 to the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night, citing his performance was the reason the team lost.
Markstrom told reporters after the game:
I just suck at hockey right now. I think everybody saw what happened. It's not a good play
Markstrom is referring to an early sequence where he was way out of his crease in an attempt to knock a loose puck away from Canadiens forward and ex-teammate Sean Monahan. Unfortunately for Markstrom, it didn't play out as anticipated and rookie Juraj Slafkovsky had a wide-open net to pot the goal.
After being in the Vezina conversation last season, Markstrom has struggled throughout the 2022-23 season. The latest loss marks the 11th game of his season where his save % has been below .900. Tough to win when that's the case.
