NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Trade Destinations for Canucks' Brock Boeser
The Vancouver Canucks have given Brock Boeser's agent permission to speak to other teams to facilitate a trade. They were set to make him a healthy scratch on Saturday night, however due to some late injuries, he ended up playing the game and scored a late goal to tie the contest. Boeser appears set to be traded in the coming weeks, let's examine a few potential destinations:
Pittsburgh Penguins
The Canucks top-two management executives are ex-employees of the Penguins and know the team and their farm system through and through. Boeser is someone Ron Hextall and Brian Burke are found of and certainly could have interest in acquiring. This trade would need to be Kasperi Kapanen, plus-plus to facilitate and a top prospect would need to be included in the Pens package.
New York Islanders
The Islanders have been extremely quiet these last few months when it comes to any transactions. It feels like this is the type of player the team would go after as Boeser is a great teammate and professional off the ice. New York also needs offense and even though the numbers are down, he's a proven scorer who can easily turn it on. The Canucks need a defenseman, perhaps there's a match as the Isles have some solid blueliners at their disposal.
Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings are loaded with young talent and have the capital to make a deal with the Canucks. They also have cap space to take on Boeser's $6.65 million annual salary through the 2024-25 season. Steve Yzerman knows his team is getting closer to contending and adding an offensive threat like Boeser could go a long way. A one-for-one for a Red Wings defenseman could be the play here.
“It was a very important game for me and my family, so when I came in this morning and my name wasn’t on the white board it hurt - it hurt bad,” says Brock Boeser of being an almost healthy scratch on Hockey Fights Cancer night. #Canucks
