NHL Rumors: Bruins Star Expected To Get Massive Contract
The end of an era is coming in Boston, but the Bruins aren't done yet as they are the best team in the NHL this season. Zdeno Chara has long since moved on, Tuukka Rask is retired, and Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci are on one-year deals.
As the tide starts to change, the new stars are going to want more money on their deals like Charlie McAvoy took on his. He earns $9.5 million AAV, so what's to say David Pastrnak won't become one of the top paid players in the NHL? Fluto Shinzawa reported that people are expecting Pastrnak to get an eight-year deal in the neighbourhood of $11 million AAV.
It's not a question of whether Pastrnak deserves it, because he does. He is a five-time 30-goal scorer, two time 40-goal scorer, and has won the rocket Richard Trophy already in his young career. He is just 26 years old and leads the Bruins with 19 goals and 38 points in 27 games this season. The Bruins' star is on pace for 57 goals this season and is amongst the best in the league in most offensive categories.
Pastrnak is one of the most underpaid players in the NHL, earning $6.67 million AAV. But he is a UFA at the end of the season. He has also said that he is just happy to be playing in the NHL when asked about how much he makes a few years ago. That narrative may have changed a bit now that he's older and more established. We'll have to wait and see what happens with Pastrnak and his next contract.
