NHL Rumors: Red Wings' Forward Linked to Maple Leafs
According to reports from Ansar Khan of Mlive.com the Detroit Red Wings could have interest in moving forward Tyler Bertuzzi before the March 3 NHL trade deadline and one team to keep an eye on ... the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Toronto is in the market for help at left wing on their second line, so having interest in Bertuzzi makes sense. The pesky forward is a pending unrestricted free agent after this season and at this time is on the injured reserve nursing a hand injury. He's managed to appear in nine games this season, recording four points.
In 2021-22, the 27-year-old Red Wings' forward recorded 30 goals and 62 points in 68 games. His health is a concern as injuries seem to creep into the picture every season, so there's certainly some risk involved for any team with interest. Regardless, his offensive capabilities and playing style make him a trade target for any playoff team.
Bertuzzi makes $4.75 million against the cap this season and the Maple Leafs currently have $7 million in cap space to work with, however have defenseman Morgan Rielly and his $7.5 million cap hit coming off LTIR at some point in early 2023.
