NHL Rumors: Washington Capitals to Trade Defenseman
The Washington Capitals have a 10-11-3 record and look like they will be sellers at the deadline. As a result, one pending UFA from their roster who is likely to be traded is Trevor van Riemsdyk.
van Riemsdyk is a solid bottom-pairing defenseman who carries a very affordable $950,000 cap hit. As a result, there's no question that he will receive interest on the trade market once officially made available.
van Riemsdyk has played in 24 games this campaign with the Capitals, where he has one goal, four assists, and a plus-1 rating. Overall, it has been a pretty decent start to the year for the Middletown native, so it will be intriguing to see where he ends up before the deadline passes. At worst, he would be a solid seventh defenseman for a contender to have.
