Video: Canadiens Edmundson Kicked Out for Brutal Cross Check
Montreal Canadiens defenseman Joel Edmundson will be hearing from the NHL's department of player safety after he unleashed a brutal cross check to the head of Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman.
Edmundson was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct, leaving the Canadiens with five defensemen to finish Saturday night's game. The play happened along the boards and was totally uncalled for as Edmundson rode Hyman into the boards and proceeded to double down on his cross check.
Hyman was worse for wear, but did stay in the game. The Oilers went on to defeat the Habs 5-3 thanks to a stellar performance from Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Here's the play which is likely to land Edmundson in the press box for a game:
