2 Players Placed on Waivers
Two new players have been placed on waivers today (Jan. 10), as Casey Fitzgerald (Buffalo Sabres) and Jake Leschyshyn (Vegas Golden Knights) are hitting the wire.
Fitzgerald has been placed on the waiver wire to free up a roster spot to bring up Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. The Sabres want to run with a three-goalie rotation, and this decision has made Fitzgerald expendable. Teams looking to add a depth defenseman could consider claiming Fitzgerald from here, as he carries a league-minimum cap hit. In 23 games this season, he has recorded three assists to go along with four penalty minutes.
Leschyshyn, on the other hand, was selected by the Golden Knights back in 2017. Once a top prospect in their system, he has yet to emerge as a full-time NHL player, and now he is hitting the waiver wire because of it. In 22 games this season with Vegas, he has failed to get on the scoresheet and sports a minus-7 rating. That certainly is not enough production to maintain an NHL spot, but let’s see if a team decides to take a chance on the 23-year-old from here.
