3 Pittsburgh Penguins 2023 Trade Candidates
The Pittsburgh Penguins will be active ahead of the 2023 trade deadline as GM Ron Hextall looks to bring a Stanley Cup back to Pittsburgh. The Pens could use some more depth in their lineup at forward, defense and in net, as starter Tristan Jarry has health concerns. While there will be players coming in, let's examine who could be going out as we look into three Penguins trade assets:
Kasperi Kapanen
Kapanen needs a change of scenery and a bigger role. The Penguins need more cap space and have been trying to get out of Kapanen's $3.2 million for next season. They will need to sweeten the pot and add another piece, however there's been some advanced talks when it comes to a deal here. A team like the Arizona Coyotes could have interest, same goes for the Washington Capitals.
Ty Smith
There's been some preliminary trade talks involving Smith this season, after he came over in the John Marino deal with the New Jersey Devils. Smith has the game to run a power play and at only 22 years old, still has plenty of potential and trade value. He was recently called back up and has recorded three points in five games. Smith is a pending restricted free agent at season's end.
Filip Lindberg
Lindberg is one of the better goalies outside of the NHL and even with some recent injury concerns, holds trade value this season. He's posted back-to-back solid seasons in the AHL and while he's not the biggest goalie, his athleticism is off the charts. Lindberg has a .915 SV.% in 18 career professional games.
