3 Potential Trade Destinations for Canadiens Sean Monahan
Montreal Canadiens forward Sean Monahan is expected to be returning from injury in the coming days and the trade talks are going to be picking up in a major way. The Canadiens will look to cash in on their pending free agent before the March 3 trade deadline and here's a few teams who will be in the mix for Monahan's services:
Colorado Avalanche
The Avs are going after another center and someone who has the versatility to play the wing. Monahan checks off both boxes and is someone who could fit in nicely at a number of positions for Colorado. Recently hockey insider Pierre LeBrun linked the two and had this to say:
Monahan can play anywhere in Colorado’s top nine. The two teams connected on the Artturi Lehkonen trade a year ago, and to me, this is a sensible idea too. Monahan should be back soon from injury, and before he got hurt he was writing a nice comeback story for himself.
Washington Capitals
The Capitals are in the same boat as the Avs as they are trolling the market for another center to add to their group. Niklas Backstrom has recently returned however his health is always a big question mark. Look for the Caps to make a strong offer for Monahan, which could include Anthony Mantha heading the other way.
Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins are looking for a third-line center and seeing what options will be available closer to the deadline. They've recently made some call ups to try and re-jig their bottom-six lines, however after one game it doesn't appear to be sticking around. Jeff Carter has struggled this season and the Penguins are looking to upgrade, something Monahan would surely be for the franchise.
