Blues Veteran Goalie Not Expected Back Next Season
The St Louis Blues recently made a quiet signing, however it had lasting impacts on one of their players. Veteran goaltender Thomas Greiss is likely not returning to the Blues next season after the team recently signed top-goalie prospect Joel Hofer to a contract extension, which is a one-way deal that kicks in next season.
The Blues have their backup goalie beyond Thomas Greiss this season. The club just announced that Joel Hofer has agreed to terms on a two-year, one-way contract starting next year. #stlblues

The 36-year-old Greiss is in his first season with the Blues after two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. He's appeared in 11 games so far in 2022-23, recording a .903 SV.% and a 3.55 goals-against average. Certainly not numbers which are going to jump off the page for a general manager to throw a contract extension at you.
The Blues, who are banged up and struggling this season are likely going to test the trade waters on a number of their players before March 3. Greiss now becomes a prime trade candidate as the team is heading in a new direction for next season and beyond.
