Edmonton Oilers & Nashville Predators Becoming Trade Candidates
In a recent piece for Daily Faceoff, Frank Seravalli noted that the Edmonton Oilers' top objective at the trade deadline is to acquire a left-shot defenseman. It is well-known that the Oilers could use some help with their defensive group. As a result, Seravalli noted that Mattias Ekholm from the Nashville Predators could be an ideal trade target for them.
When noting that Ekholm is a legitimate top-four defenseman, there is no question that he would be a fantastic addition to the Oilers’ current lineup. He could take a little pressure away from Darnell Nurse on the left side, while also offering the Oilers more defensive reliability on the backend.
The Oilers would need to be okay with the fact that Ekholm is under contract for multiple seasons, however. As a result, he would be far more than a rental, but at the end of the day, that may be exactly what the Oilers need. Let’s see if the Predators and Oilers end up striking a deal before the 2023 trade deadline passes.
