Montreal Canadiens Begin Negotiations with Key Forward

On last night's TSN Insider Training, NHL insider Darren Dreger reported that the Montreal Canadiens are beginning extension talks with Cole Caufield.

It is not surprising to hear that the Canadiens are already trying to sign Caufield to his next contract. The 22-year-old is going to be a major part of Montreal's rebuild, and he is already one of their best players so early on in his career. After recording a 43-point campaign last season, he has an impressive 26 goals and 36 points in just 45 games this year. Needless to say, the youngster is already emerging as an excellent sniper, and he should continue to improve as he gains experience.

With Caufield already showing signs of being a star, don't be surprised to see the Canadiens aim to sign him to a long-term extension. Alas, we will have to wait and see what his next contract looks like from here.
