NHL Rumors: Blackhawks' Center Could Re-Sign Long-Term
The Chicago Blackhawks are still trying to fully break things down, but they may have turned one of their potential trade pieces this season into a long-term addition. According to Jeff Marek, Max Domi may consider staying with the Blackhawks on a longer term deal after the success he has had with the team.
Even though the Blackhawks could get something decent for Domi, it would be more worth it to keep him around to be a top-six player. He is currently the top line centre and is leading the team in goals (12) and points (28) in 39 games.
Domi has bounced around quite a bit in his career and has found success in a place where he had hoped to but not many thought he would. He would be able to get the highest payday from the Blackhawks if he were to stick around. They could pay him more to help them reach the cap floor for the next few seasons, benefiting both sides.
Domi doesn't have any trade protection, but if he's expressed interest in staying with the Blackhawks, I'm sure a deal could get done. It is also a possibility that he is dealt at the deadline to a contender and returns on a long-term deal with Chicago in the offseason.
