NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames Making Trade Offers
The Calgary Flames made headlines throughout the offseason as general manager Brad Treliving made a number of blockbuster moves. Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk certainly gave Treliving no choice in the matter but the Flames GM made the most of the situation. Turns out his work isn't done.
The Flames have been rumored to be making trade offers since the start of this season, looking to add a scoring winger to their mix. Offense is down and the team would benefit from some more firepower up front.
Treliving has his first and second-round picks in 2023 to dangle, as well as a number of prospects who are getting close to NHL ready. The Flames are in line to have just under $3 million in salary cap space at the trade deadline, meanwhile have only $2 million in projected cap space for next season. Any move will need to be a creative one.
Some potential trade targets include Frank Vatrano from the Anaheim Ducks, Andrei Kuzmenko from the Vancouver Canucks and James van Riemsdyk of the Philadelphia Flyers. JVR and Flames center Nazem Kadri were teammates with the Toronto Maple Leafs for six seasons and could find some instant chemistry in Calgary.
