NHL Rumors: John Klingberg to Edmonton Oilers Heating Up

John Klingberg is one of the most notable defensemen who is in the rumor mill as we get closer to the trade deadline. With the Anaheim Ducks being well out of the playoff race and Klingberg being a pending UFA, a trade is inevitable. The Edmonton Oilers have been viewed as a potential landing spot for Klingberg, and now more fuel has been added to the fire. According to The Fourth Period, the Oilers are in fact interested in acquiring Klingberg.

Klingberg carries a $7 million cap hit, so any move centering around him with the Oilers would force the Ducks to retain a good portion of his salary. With Anaheim rebuilding and having a plethora of cap space, they certainly should be open to doing just that. This is especially the case if it helps them land a little something extra for him in the process.

Klingberg would offer the Oilers a very good offensive defenseman, and this is especially true if he can find the form he had with the Dallas Stars. Alas, we will need to wait and see if the Oilers end up acquiring the veteran defenseman from here.
