NHL Rumors: New York Rangers Linked to Predators Defenseman

In a recent piece for Daily Faceoff, Frank Seravalli brought up the prospect of the New York Rangers pursuing Nashville Predators defenseman Mattias Ekholm.

It was announced earlier this week that the Predators are shopping Ekholm. This is not too surprising, as Nashville has taken a noticeable step back this season and is currently out of the playoff picture. As a result, Nashville may be ready to begin a retooling or even rebuilding period. With Ekholm being 32 years old, it does make sense for the Predators to move him if they receive the right offer.

The Rangers could use a bit of a boost on the left side of their defense, so we will have to wait and see if they end up making a push for him from here. The veteran would provide steady defensive play if acquired, but he also would be able to produce a bit offensively while playing at his best. Therefore, this could be a move that the Rangers should consider making.
