Blackhawks Rumors: Insider Links Jake McCabe to Contender

The Chicago Blackhawks are ready to be major sellers at the 2023 Trade Deadline, and one player who is getting a ton of attention on the trade market because of this is Jake McCabe. Teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers have emerged as potential landing spots for the veteran, but now it seems a new team could enter the mix. According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, McCabe could be a potential fit for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Lightning are aiming to make it to the Stanley Cup Final for the fourth year in a row. However, to do that, they would be wise to improve their defensive group. Teams like the Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers, and Maple Leafs are not going to be a walk in the park, so adding a shutdown defenseman like McCabe could make sense for them as they gear up for the postseason.

If the Blackhawks retain half of McCabe's salary for a bigger return for him, this could be an avenue worth exploring for both clubs. Alas, we will need to wait and see if a move occurs centering around McCabe from here.
