Detroit Red Wings Rumors: Forward Will Not Be Traded

After winning seven out of their last 10 games, the Detroit Red Wings are right back in the playoff race. They only trail the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders by three points for the final wild card spot, and now it is impacting their deadline decisions. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Red Wings have taken pending unrestricted free agent Tyler Bertuzzi off of the trade market.

This is kind of a surprising development, as Bertuzzi was garnering a lot of attention around the NHL. Teams like the Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, and Edmonton were in on Bertuzzi, but this latest report from Friedman will put all that talk to rest. Instead, the 27-year-old will remain a Red Wing as they aim to make the postseason for the first time since 2016.

Injuries made Bertuzzi start off the year slowly, and that is why he has just 12 points in 24 games. Yet, it is crucial to note that he has heated up quite nicely since returning, as he has seven points over his last seven contests. Therefore, he is a player the Red Wings need if they want to make the playoffs. Let's see if they can do just that.
