DONE DEAL: Golden Knights & Coyotes Complete Trade
The Vegas Golden Knights have freed up a bunch of salary cap space as the team has traded defenseman Shea Weber (contract) and a fifth-round pick in 2023 to the Arizona Coyotes for forward Dysin Mayo.
VGK clearing up cap space for the next few years, Weber's contract has a $7.857M cap hit through 2025-26 although his actual salary is $1M per year starting next season. So a low cash transaction for Arizona.

But Vegas can now look at acquiring not just now but beyond this season https://t.co/8UHZyDBwUW
This is a very financial transaction for the Golden Knights who now have some cap flexibility not only for ahead of the March 3 trade deadline but also looking ahead to next season and beyond.
Why would #Yotes do this deal?

Mayo is owed:
1. $234k this season
2. $2M next 2 seasons
Total: $2.2M
Weber:
1. $827k this season
2. $1.2M next 3 ($3M at approx 60% injury insured)
Total: $2M
For a minuscule salary difference, they receive a 5th and get closer to the cap floor
As for Mayo, he's a 26-year-old right-handed defenseman who was originally a fifth-round pick by the Coyotes back in 2014. Mayo's appeared in 18 games this season and did not register a point in Arizona, and was a -8 rating.
Vegas can now add just about anyone and will be big players in the trade market this season.
Wrote today how off-season cap could be a problem for Vegas if they wanted to add a big salary with term. This eases that concern https://t.co/Q02s8rZsiO
