NHL Rumors: Chicago Blackhawks Forward Being Linked to Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers are heading into the 2023 Trade Deadline with the expectation of being buyers. Although they are looking to add a high-impact, left-shot defenseman, there are also rumblings that they want to beef up their bottom six. As a result, the Oilers are reportedly increasing their push to acquire Chicago Blackhawks forward Sam Lafferty.
Lafferty has been viewed as a fourth-line trade option for the Oilers for much of this season, and it makes sense on paper. The 27-year-old is exactly the kind of bottom-six forward that they need, as he provides solid secondary scoring to go along with excellent defensive play and notable physicality. In 43 games this season with the Blackhawks, he has eight goals, 17 points, and 73 hits.
There is no question that Lafferty would be a strong addition to Edmonton's group as they gear up for the playoffs, so we will need to wait and see if their interest in him results in a trade from here.
