NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings Shopping Defenseman
The Detroit Red Wings are currently sitting out of a playoff spot and are expected to be sellers at the 2023 Trade Deadline because of it. As a result, one pending UFA who is starting to get attention on the trade market is veteran defenseman Olli Maatta.
Maatta was recently placed on Frank Seravalli's Trade Target board, so it seems quite likely that we will see him dealt at the deadline. The 28-year-old may not be the biggest name available, but he has the potential to be a solid addition for a playoff team looking to strengthen their left side. In 46 games this season, he has four goals, 15 points, and a plus-3 rating. Overall, these are decent numbers from the defensive defenseman, so that likely is increasing his value, too.
Some would say the @DailyFaceoff Trade Targets 🎯 list has taken a hit in the last week: Tarasenko (16), Mikkola (26) and Megna (27) are all off the board.

As we get closer to the deadline, do not be surprised to see Maatta's market get bigger. The two-time Stanley Cup winner could be a great player for a team looking to improve their left side to add, so we will need to wait and see where he ends up going from here. Teams like the Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild, and New York Rangers stand out as some landing spots for him.
