NHL Rumors: New Team Emerges in Cam Talbot Sweepstakes
Cam Talbot is going to be a player to pay attention to at the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline. The veteran netminder is a pending UFA, and the Ottawa Senators' playoff hopes are not particularly high at this point of the year. As a result, there is a very good chance that we will see the 35-year-old moved before March 3. Now, a new team is reportedly open to bringing him in, as The Fourth Period has reported that the Pittsburgh Penguins are linked to him.
Although the Penguins currently have Tristan Jarry, he is currently on injured reserve, so it would be wise for Pittsburgh to get another goalie. This is especially true when noting that Casey DeSmith has had his troubles this campaign. It is fair to argue that Talbot would be a big upgrade over him as the team's backup, so perhaps the Penguins should go all in for him.
The Penguins are going to need to improve their goaltending to maintain their wild card spot while Jarry is out, so perhaps we will see them increase their efforts to acquire Talbot now. On paper, there is a good match here, but time will tell if their interest leads to them acquiring him from here.
