Ottawa Senators Rumors: Forward Being Linked to Division Rival
The Tampa Bay Lightning are looking to add to their depth before the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline passes. As a result of this, they are reportedly targeting Ottawa Senators forward Austin Watson.
Watson is expected to be traded by March 3, as he is a pending unrestricted free agent, and the Senators are low in the Eastern Conference standings. As a result, the Senators are looking to move him as a rental candidate, and it makes sense that a team like the Lightning want to acquire him. Watson would serve well as a depth forward for them during the final stretch of the campaign, as he is a grizzled veteran who plays an immensely heavy game. Therefore, he would give Tampa Bay a little more toughness for the postseason, and that is always welcomed.
Watson has had a quiet year offensively this campaign, as he has just four goals to go along with two assists in 52 games. Although those numbers are not too impressive, he also has a solid 115 hits on the campaign. Nevertheless, expect other teams like the Boston Bruins, Seattle Kraken, New York Rangers, and Edmonton Oilers to be some other teams in the market for his services from here.
