Washington Capitals Rumors: Defenseman Linked to Maple Leafs
The Washington Capitals cemented themselves as major sellers when they traded Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins. Thus, their pending UFAs are available for the right price, and Trevor van Riemsdyk is an intriguing one who should get plenty of attention. While on his show, NHL insider Jeff Marek brought up the possibility of the Toronto Maple Leafs making a push for van Riemsdyk.
Marek wonders about Gustafsson or TvR for Toronto, both make under $1M. Friedman feels Leafs have enough Gustafsson types, likes TvR for them more so, likes TvR for Ottawa as well, says he makes sense for them.

The Maple Leafs would be wise to add to their defensive depth on the right side, and acquiring TVR would provide them with just that. The 31-year-old is quietly having a solid season for the Caps, as he has six goals, 16 points, and a plus-7 rating in 60 games played. With these numbers, he certainly could be an option for their bottom pairing.
Yet, what makes TVR most appealing is his extremely affordable $950,000 cap hit. He's a player with who the Leafs would have no trouble fitting in financially, so we will need to wait and see if something comes from this.
