Arizona Coyotes' Worst Trade Of The Past Year

The Arizona Coyotes didn't do very well in dealing away their best pieces that were eventually on their way out. They only got a third round pick for Shayne Gostisbehere while the return for Jakob Chychrun was underwhelming for all the hype and trade rumours over the past two years.

As the Coyotes waited to get a perfect deal that would get them the very high return they were hoping for, opportunities went by and the price teams were willing to pay for the injury-prone young defenceman dwindled. The Coyotes finally got a deal done with the Ottawa Senators, and after the expectation was that Arizona would get two first round picks and a top prospect in return, they ended up getting a 2023 first round pick, 2024 conditional second round pick, and 2026 second round pick. The condition on the second round pick is that it turns into a first if the Senators make the conference finals this season, which is a stretch considering they will likely miss the playoffs entirely.

The Coyotes have themselves a little hope with that condition, but it is nowhere near the original asking price and doesn't help the Coyotes very much anytime soon other than the first rounder this year. Chychrun has nine goals and 33 points in 48 games this season, but missed a big chunk of games at the start of the season and is injured again for the Senators currently. He still has two years left at a really good price when he's healthy which should have gotten the Coyotes a better return.
