Buffalo Sabres Rumors: 3 Free Agents to Target This Offseason
Welcome to NHL Trade Rumors' 2023 Free-Agent Targets series. During it, we will be discussing three pending unrestricted free agents that each team should aim to sign.
In this latest episode, we will be discussing the Buffalo Sabres.
Dmitry Orlov: The Sabres need to improve their defensive group this offseason if they hope to become a legitimate playoff team in 2023-24. As a result, their primary free-agent target should be Dmitry Orlov. He has been on fire since being traded to the Boston Bruins and is capable of playing top-pairing minutes. With that, he also can play both sides, so he offers great versatility.
Luke Schenn: The Sabres need to strengthen the right side of their defensive group, so perhaps Luke Schenn could make sense to them. The old-fashioned shutdown defenseman would provide the Sabres with more defensive stability and physicality. With that, he would be a great mentor for their younger players to have.
Alex Kerfoot: The Sabres should be looking to bring in an effective third-line forward this offseason, so Alex Kerfoot stands out as a possible free-agent target for them. He can play all three forward positions, kill penalties, and provide decent secondary scoring, so he could be an impactful addition to their forward group.
