Carolina Hurricanes Rumors: Blockbuster Trade Offer Made Prior to Deadline
It wasn't for a lack of trying for the Carolina Hurricanes as they swung for the fences but came up short. After Max Pacioretty went down for the season with injury, management turned their focus to the San Jose Sharks and acquiring Timo Meier and were in trade talks with the Sharks until the dying moments of the Meier sweepstakes.
Of course, the Sharks ended up taking the New Jersey Devils offer and the rest is history. Meier was very close to becoming a Hurricane as GM Don Waddell was very aggressive in talks. Rumor has the 'Canes were willing to give up a 2023 first-round pick and prospect Ryan Suzuki, along with young forward Seth Jarvis.
Sharks GM Mike Grier decided Fabian Zetterlund was the player they wanted to zone in on and so far in four games with the Sharks he's put up zero points. Zetterlund is 23, and has recorded 20 points in 45 games this season.
As for the Hurricanes, they move on with adding Jesse Puljujarvi and Shayne Gostisbehere to their club. Gostisbehere is already making an offensive impact, meanwhile Puljujarvi should suit up the next game as he had to work out visa issues. Carolina will be one of the team's to beat in the Eastern Conference this season and could have been an even bigger powerhouse if the Meier blockbuster would not have fallen through.
