Colorado Avalanche & Washington Capitals Complete Trade

The Colorado Avalanche have found some depth down the middle as they have acquired Lars Eller from the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick. The Caps will also be retaining 31% of Eller's remaining money left on his $3.5 million cap hit.

The Avs have been in the market for a center all season and had been tied to Ryan O'Reilly and Jonathan Toews. Since those two are no longer available, they have turned to the 33-year-old Eller. So far in 60 games this season, the veteran pivot has only recorded seven goals and 16 points. Certainly a down season and a touch surprising the Caps got so much in return.

Eller's best season came back in 2019-20 when he recorded 39 points in 69 games. The newest Av is accustomed to playing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as he's tallied 49 points in 96 postseason games.

The Avs continue to discuss trades, as do the Capitals as one team is trying to win another Cup, meanwhile the other is re-tooling on the fly.
