New York Rangers' Worst Trade Of The Past Year
The New York Rangers have squeezed every bit of cap space out of their team as they can as they have acquired some of the best players before the trade deadline in order to make a deep run in the playoffs this season. In terms of value, all of those have been good. What we're looking at is the bad as there is one trade that took too long to complete and the value was very weak. This was the deal that sent Vitali Kravtsov to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for William Lockwood and a seventh round pick.
Kravtsov is a former ninth overall pick that was drafted in 2018. Sure, high picks should be developed by now, but he was also rushed, resulting in a slow and difficult development. The attitude the young player brought didn't help his cause as he felt he didn't need more time to develop anyways. The Rangers decided to keep him under team control despite playing overseas for one season, and attempted to bring him back to play on their team.
If they had just dealt him earlier instead of giving other teams a preview of the lack of offence he provided, they may have been able to get more in return for him than just a seventh round pick and a player who has one career assist in 28 games at nearly age 25. The Rangers lost this deal and compared to the rest of their solid trades over the past year, this is one to forget.
