Seattle Kraken Sign Prospect
The Seattle Kraken have signed prospect Ville Ottavainen to a three-year, entry-level contract. It will begin next season.
Ottavainen was selected with the 99th overall pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Kraken, and now he has earned his ELC. The 6-foot-5 right-shot defenseman is putting together a strong year with JyP HT Jyvaskyla of the Finnish Liiga, as he has five goals and a career-high 16 points in 51 games played. This is certainly encouraging to see from the 20-year-old defenseman, so it makes sense that the Kraken have now signed him.
With Ottavainen's contract not kicking in until next season, we are not going to see him at the NHL level this year. Yet, when noting that he plays a heavy game and is defensively responsible, perhaps he could be in the running for an NHL job next season. Alas, time will tell on that front, but the Kraken certainly have a solid prospect here.
