Toronto Maple Leafs Auston Matthews Reveals Injury Troubles
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews had to sit two games back in January and speculation started brewing about a potential hand/wrist injury. Turns out that was indeed the case as earlier this week, Matthews confirmed he's been battling through some adversity.
Matthews spoke with Jonas Siegel of The Athletic and had this to say:
It was bothering me. It just felt like something was off. I just felt like ... I wasn't able to do exactly what I wanted to at times. I think my hand and everything has been feeling a lot better, just stronger.
Despite all the health concerns and dealing with playing through pain, Matthews has managed to still perform at a high level. 60-goal season? No, not that again, but so far through 60 goals, he's scored 31 goals and totaled 67 points.
Matthews is likely going to receive some Selke votes this season as he's become an elite player on both sides of the puck and can impact the game in so many ways.
Leafs Nation is breathing a big sigh of relief as it does sound like these injury troubles are behind Matthews and he'll be ready to go on all cylinders for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
