Calgary Flames Announce New Arena Deal
For years now, the Calgary Flames have come under fire due to their outdated Scotiabank Saddledome arena, with criticisms about the building, locker room and general outdated look, and for the past two years, the city has been waiting for an announcement on a deal for a new arena.
There's still a long way to go before this announcement becomes a reality, as there are many moving parts with the city of Calgary, CSEC and province of Alberta all contributing, but this is yet another step in the right direction for the Flames and the city.
Few players while on the team have publicly come out and criticized the set up, but one name who did exactly that after the 2022/23 season was defence man Mackenzie Weegar, and while it may not make them that much more attractive to free agents, it certainly isn't going to hurt. We're proud to announce the @cityofcalgary, province of Alberta, CSEC, and @calgarystampede have reached an agreement, in principle, to proceed with a significant phase of the Culture + Entertainment District, which will be anchored by a new publicly-owned modern Event Centre.
