Detroit Red Wings Rumors: 3 Free Agents to Target This Offseason
Welcome to NHL Trade Rumors' 2023 Free-Agent Targets series. During it, we will be discussing three pending unrestricted free agents that each team should aim to sign.
In this episode, we will be focusing on the Detroit Red Wings.
John Klingberg: The Red Wings would be wise to add a right-shot defenseman to their current group this summer. As a result, they could look to sign John Klingberg, as he is a top-four defenseman while playing at his best. Furthermore, with Filip Hronek now off the team, the Red Wings should be looking to add another offensive defenseman to their roster.
Alex Killorn: With the Red Wings being on the rise, perhaps they could look to add another top-six forward to their group and sign Alex Killorn. GM Steve Yzerman has a connection with him, as he of course was with the Tampa Bay Lightning organization for many years. Thus, with the Red Wings needing help at left wing, there appears to be a match here.
Semyon Varlamov: The Red Wings' goaltending has not been too strong this season, so they could look to bring in another netminder this offseason because of it. As a short-term fix, perhaps Semyon Varlamov could be a good goalie to bring in. He would form a serviceable tandem with Ville Husso, as he is still an effective goalie at 34 years old. In 23 appearances this season with the New York Islanders, he has an 11-9-2 record, 2.70 GAA, and .913 SV%.
