Hurricanes Sign Playmaking Prospect D-Man To Contract

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed one of the top defenseman in college hockey, inking their 2019 third-round pick Dominick Fensore to a two-year entry-level contract.

Fensore gets a $185,000 signing bonus, and will earn $832,500 in the NHL, or $70K in the AHL. He was selected with the 90th overall pick in the 2019 Draft.

The Canes are looking forward to getting Fensore into the system, as per GM Don Waddell: "Domenick is a skilled, playmaking defenseman. He captained a BU team that was among the best in college hockey this season, and we’re excited for him to take the next steps in his development."

The captain of the Boston University squad that took part in the Frozen Four earlier this month registered his second straight 31-point season on defense (in 37 games). Fensore was named a Hockey East First Team All-Star.

His contract with Carolina begins next season, where he'll likely start his pro career in the AHL, though the Hurricanes must first find a new affiliate, as the Chicago Wolves have let their contract with the Canes expire, and plan to operate as an independent franchise next season.
