NHL Rumors: 3 Teams Expected to Target Phil Kessel This Offseason
Phil Kessel may not be a star anymore, but he has shown that he can still be an effective middle-six winger at this juncture of his career, and he of course the NHL's reigning ironman. In 80 games this season with the Vegas Golden Knights, he has 14 goals and 36 points. As a result, it seems likely that he will land a cheap one-year deal. As a result, let's discuss three teams who are expected to pursue him.
Minnesota Wild: The Minnesota Wild have limited cap space due to the Ryan Suter and Zach Parise buyout penalties. As a result, they could look to bring in Kessel to their middle six at a cheap price. He would provide them with more secondary scoring and a boost to their power play.
Tampa Bay Lightning: The Tampa Bay Lightning are another team with limited cap space, so they could be willing to sign Kessel if it's at an affordable salary. The Lightning could lose Alex Killorn this offseason as well, so Kessel could be an option to fill in for him in their middle six.
Winnipeg Jets: Secondary scoring has been an issue with the Winnipeg Jets are their year has rolled on, so perhaps they could be in the market for Kessel's services. He would be a good fit on their third line and provide it with more offense.
