NHL Rumors: 3 Teams Expected to Target Jonathan Toews This Offseason

The Chicago Blackhawks announced that they will not be re-signing Jonathan Toews this offseason. The longtime Blackhawks captain will now have the chance to test the free-agent market. If he elects to play at least another season instead of retiring, here are three teams expected to target him.

Winnipeg Jets: The Winnipeg Jets just snuck their way into the playoffs this year, but it is clear that they need more secondary scoring if they hope to be real contenders moving forward. Therefore, they could look to bringing Toews in for their third line. It also is likely that Toews would consider playing there, as he is a Winnipeg native.

Carolina Hurricanes: The Carolina Hurricanes could look to bring Toews in, as they have a serious need down the middle. Toews could be a potential option in their middle six, as he has shown this season that he can still contribute offensively (30 points in 52 games played). With that, he would be an option for their penalty kill.

Boston Bruins: The Boston Bruins were interested in acquiring Toews at certain points this season, so they certainly could be open to bringing him in on a cheap one-year deal this summer. This is especially so when noting that Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, and Tomas Nosek are all pending UFAs.
