Pittsburgh Penguins Rumors: Insider Names Forward as Trade Candidate

Before the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline passed, the Pittsburgh Penguins acquired Mikael Granlund as their "big" move. However, it proved to be a rough one for the Penguins, as Granlund had just one goal and four assists in 21 games following the move. As a result of his struggles and the Penguins changing management, NHL insider Frank Seravalli has named Granlund as a trade target heading into the offseason.

It is clear that Granlund did not mesh well with the Penguins' group, and that could open the door to Pittsburgh moving him. It is important to note that Granlund was producing well with Nashville before the trade, as he had nine goals to go along with 36 points in 58 games. Due to this, there could be some clubs willing to take a chance on him if they believe that he can bounce back.

While playing at his best, Granlund is a serviceable second-line option, but he was far from that with the Penguins. Perhaps a change of scenery would be the best thing for him at this juncture. We will need to wait and see if the Penguins end up moving the 31-year-old versatile forward from here.
