San Jose Sharks Sign Prospect
The San Jose Sharks signed prospect Ethan Cardwell to a three-year, entry-level contract.
The Sharks had until June 1 to sign Cardwell to his ELC. Had they not come to an agreement by then, the 20-year-old center would have had the chance to enter this summer's entry draft. However, instead, he is officially a part of the Sharks' organization.
The Sharks selected Cardwell with the 121st overall pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. After posting a 58-point campaign in 49 games with the Barrie Colts last season, he had 43 goals and 90 points in 62 games played this year. As a result, he trended in the right direction this season and now will be aiming to translate that over to the professional level from here.
With the Sharks being in a rebuild, they will be hoping that a late-round pipickike Cardwell will be able to blossom into a full-time NHL player later down the road. When looking at his strong season in junior this year, they must be feeling quite confident in him right now.
