Senators & Ducks Linked To Big Offseason Trade
As the Ottawa Senators have chosen not to bend to the request of Cam Talbot and sign him to a two-year contract extension, Pierre Dorian said that he will be looking around at the goalie market and try to trade for someone. The biggest name out there that appears to be on the trade block is John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks.
Gibson once put up elite numbers season after season at the start of his career until the Ducks dove into a full rebuild. Once they did that, Gibson has remained, but his numbers have really fallen off with little to no help in front of him on a nightly basis. When watching him, he can still take over a game and shows signs of his elite netminding ability. With a better team in front of him like the Senators have, it could turn his career around and change everything for the Senators.
It makes sense for the Ducks to move on from Gibson now with a few years left on his deal so they can get a bit younger and give Lukas Dostal more starts in the NHL. It also makes sense for the Senators to acquire a goalie of Gibson's age and skill since he is a starter that they're lacking. He wants to win and still won't be able to do that in Anaheim for a few seasons. Ottawa may be one of his best bets and worth the investment for the Senators.
