Washington Capitals Officially Eliminated From Playoff Contention
The 2022/23 NHL season has been a fantastic one, and while there's some talented teams out West that could certainly contend when the playoffs roll around, there's no doubting that the Eastern Conference is the deeper of the two, with almost every team believing they're genuine contenders.
Unfortunately, for the first time since 2014, the Washington Capitals will not be one of the teams competing for the coveted Stanley Cup, and given the injuries and inconsistency this season, this comes as no surprise.
With Alex Ovechkin and their talented core, this team could be back competing for a spot in 2023/24, but given how well Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pittsburgh and New York have played, coupled with the teams struggles, this just wasn't their year. The Washington Capitals have officially been eliminated from the playoffs.
