Calgary Flames Rumors: Defenseman Becoming Trade Candidate

There's been speculation about the Calgary Flames potentially making a trade, and one player who could be on the move is Noah Hanifin.

Hanifin is a valuable defenseman and there are several teams around the league that would be interested in acquiring him. He's considered a top-two or at least a top-four defenseman who can contribute on the power play.

This past season, the 26-year-old recorded seven goals and 38 points over 81 games.

With Oliver Kylington's emergence as a capable top-four defenseman, the Flames may have the flexibility to consider trading Hanifin. By moving him, they could potentially address other needs on their roster, such as adding a top-six or middle-six forward, preferably a right-shot right winger who can provide scoring.

Of course, the Flames will have to weigh their options carefully, considering the potential impact on their defensive depth. However, if they are confident in Kylington's ability to step up alongside Chris Tanev, trading Hanifin could be a strategic move to bolster their forward group while maximizing Hanifin's trade value.

Ultimately, the Flames will need to evaluate their pending unrestricted free agents next summer and determine the best course of action. Depending on the outcomes of those negotiations, their priorities for trades and roster additions may change. Photo Credit: Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports
