Calgary Flames Rumors: Favorite Named for New Head Coach
The Calgary Flames named Craig Conroy their new general manager and now the search for their new head coach begins. According to multiple reports, Gerard Gallant is in the running and should be considered the favorite at this point.
Gallant was recently the head coach of the New York Rangers and after their first-round exit to rival New Jersey Devils, the Rangers decided to part ways. This coming after Gallant took the Rangers to the conference final in 2022.
The 59-year-old bench boss is a player's coach who loves seeing his team outwork their opponents. Before the Rangers, Gallant was the coach of the Vegas Golden Knights from 2017-20. He's also spent time a part of the Columbus Blue Jackets and notably the Florida Panthers organizations. In Florida, Gallant coached Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau and this connection is going to significantly help his chances of landing the job as Huberdeau is the Flames highest paid player and someone who needs to bounce back in 2023-24.
Dreger on Insider Trading: "It should come as zero surprise to anyone out there that Gerard Gallant, who was let go by the New York Rangers, will be considered a prime candidate in Calgary, he has the history with Jonathan Huberdeau".
