Devils Jack Hughes Laughs Off 'Biggest Bust Ever' Title
New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes was getting sick and tired of the chirps. After being selected first overall in 2019, it's taken Hughes a couple of seasons to get his feet under him in the NHL and after one of the best seasons in franchise history, the time is now for the Devils.
Hughes met with the media over the weekend and laughed off how people were starting to call him the biggest bust ever:
I think I had a really good year, established myself as a really good player in the league. Maybe the goal-scoring a bit, I don't know if anyone expected me to score 40 in my career, let alone three years after everyone was calling me the biggest bust ever. Winning Game 7 against the Rangers, I think that was really special. To beat those guys, we wanted to do that. That was definitely the best moment (of the season).
Hughes had himself a huge season, scoring 43 goals and recording 99 points in 78 games. He'll enter his fifth season next year and with the young core in Jersey, it's obvious their time will come and Hughes is the right person to lead this team to the promised land. Not bad for the biggest bust ever.
